About Us
Cob Records first opened in Bangor, North Wales in December 1979 as an offshoot of the internationally renowned Cob Records of Porthmadog.
Sandwiched between a pub and the Job Centre, down the bottom half of Bangor's long and winding High Street, the shop has stayed in the same location, extending into a basement area in 1992.
Since 1995 Cob in Bangor has operated independently providing a service that is informed, committed and, occasionally, partisan for the local community and music fans from further afield.
Cob Records is a place of pilgrimage for many: the Holy Grail of a record shop like they used to make them. The shop's stock is a treasure trove of new and used CDs and vinyl, ranging from classic rock back catalogue to dance, roots, world music, leftfield and much more including, naturally, a vigorous Welsh Language section.
Where Cob scores, like many independent shops, is in our breadth of stock, commitment to vinyl and staff who are knowledgeable and passionate about music.
Summing up in a feature about us for Mojo magazine, author Jon Savage described the Cob experience thus: " Unlike many big city stores, Cob is a total delight: you can be sure of finding something weird and out of the ordinary at a reasonable price - which is all any of us want, right?"
