Bethesda lad Brian Williams' first live performance for 25 years took place at the Centre of Inquiry in Los Angeles on that most auspicious of dates in the satanic calendar: June 6th 2006, as a live accompaniment to the High Mass celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Church Of Satan. Since leaving the area back in the 80s, Brian's series of groundbreaking albums in his Lustmord guise have earned him legendary status across the World, and single handedly invented the dark ambient genre. Having shyed away from live performance for a quarter of a century, it appeared that the numerical alignment of 06/06/06 was just too auspicious to pass up. In the event, the long awaited performance, documented in wonderfully detailed sonic clarity on this CD, lived up to everyone's expectations, primal outpourings reduced to their most elusive, ethereal components, nebulous atmospherics and distant foghorn blasts - a black broth of slowed-down animal screeches and howling winds drawing a foggy veil over some dissonantly chiming tuned percussion. Lustmord's dark hymns draw an interesting parallel with the current wave of doom metal which they presaged by a quarter of a decade. The principle difference being that Lustmord's sounds don't stem from anything so tangible or familiar as a guitar, instead casting a vapour of mysterious environmental and animal-like vocals. Pretty essential listening for fans of dark ambient, and uneasy listening in general.
